J.G. McLaughlin Dies in Billings

John G. McLaughlin Sr., 84, retired railroad switchman of 1111 8th St. W., died of infirmities of age just before noon Friday in his home. He was born March 15, 1878, in Postville, Iowa. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John McLaughlin, who came to Butte in 1891. He worked as a horse trainer for Marcus Daly in Butte until about 1900.

He went to Illinois, and was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad. He married Kathryn McCormick June 3, 1902, in Lackon, Ill. they returned to Butte, where he was employed by Great Northern Railroad, about 1910. Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin came to Billings in 1913. He was employed by Northern Pacific Railway Co. until he retired as a switchman in 1943.

He was a member of Holy rosary parish and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Surviving Mr. McLaughlin, besides his widow, are three sons, John G. McLaughlin Jr. of Great Falls, Bernard J. McLaughlin of Minnesota, and Bert P. McLaughlin of 747 Lewis Ave., and three daughters, Mrs. Harry Gohn of 741 Ave. C., Mrs. Helen Williams of 2424 Pine St. and Mrs. E.J. Garlly of Helena. Also surviving are two brothers, James and Rush, and his sister, Bessie, of Minneapolis; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Requiem high mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy rosary church. rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Micheletti-Sawyers Mortuary. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
