Beatrice "Bea" A. Lewis, 56, of Harpers Ferry, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at her home in Harpers Ferry following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 28, at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's at Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Prairie du Chien, Wis. Beatrice "Bea" Ann Lewis was born August 4, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Anna Gertrude (Kirley) Lewis. She was baptized at Holy Family Church in Mason City. Bea attended elementary and junior high at Roosevelt in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. She then attended Northern Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. On June 1, 1968, she married Terry Lewis at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. That marriage was later blessed in May of 2002 at Immaculate Conception Church in Wexford, Iowa, and Bea received her first communion. From 1968 to 1972, Bea lived in Newport, R.I., and Jacksonville, Fla., while Terry was in the Navy. From 1972 to 1974, they lived in Clear Lake. They moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1974, where Bea worked as an accounts secretary. Since 1996, Bea and Terry have lived in Harpers Ferry. Bea was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford, She enjoyed being outdoors and liked to fish, deer hunt, and raise flowers in her garden. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. Her favorite times were spent with her family and she loved being with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Terry, of Harpers Ferry; a daughter, Tammie (Jeff) Cutre of O'Fallon, Mo.; a son, Shane (Karen) Lewis of Waukon; three grandchildren; a sister, Donna Heidenreich; a brother, Tom (Jan) Lewis; and her father- and mother-in-law, Arthur and Colleen Johnson, all of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents. Casket bearers were Earl Meeter, Randy Huffy, Rex Blake, Robert Vavra, John Heidenreich, and Michael Heidenreich.
