Vera Ethel (Williams) Jarms Wirkler, 91, Postville, Iowa, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa. Vera was born on December 22, 1917, in Hugo, Colorado, to Guy and Malvina Williams. She lived there until her family moved to Iowa to farm near Luana and later, Postville Junction. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith. Vera attended schools in Colorado and Iowa.

Vera was united in marriage to Harvey Jarms on November 10, 1934 in Farley, Iowa. To their union, four children were born: Ronald, Richard, Sandra and Harvey J. (Chip). They farmed in the Postville Junction area for 23 years until they moved to Postville in 1957. She was received as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Postville in 1946 by Pastor Ludwig.

Vera sold Tupperware for 2 years and worked at the bowling alley for a few months. Then in 1961, she purchased a children's clothing store "Jarms Tots and Teens" and owned/operated the store for 11 years. Vera then worked as a clerk at the Postville Liquor Store for 11 years. Harvey passed away August 16, 1977.

On October 7, 1983, Vera married Page Wirkler. He died July 31, 1995. Through the years, Vera enjoyed card playing, bowling, gardening, dancing, baking, and crocheting. She was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Center for many years.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands, Harvey and Page; her sons Ronald Jarms and Harvey (Chip) Jarms; three brothers: Frank, Herbie, and Don Williams; a grandson Michael Jarms; and two granddaughters, Hope and Holly Deering.

Survivors include her children: Richard Jarms, Gold Canyon, AZ and Sandra (Robert) Deering, Postville, IA; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Jarms, Cheney, WA. Eight grandchildren: Steven Jarms, Kim (Jay) Snook; Bill Jarms, David (Brenda) Deering, Tom (Charli) Jarms, Drew (Annette) Deering, Daphne (Brad) Zupke and Dan (Linda) Jarms. Fourteen great-grandchildren: Annie, Jessica, Jasmine, Aaron, Tasha, Aarik, Koal, Aandi, Amber, Corbin, Madelon, Evan, Landon, and Brenna. Eight great-great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams, Oelwein, IA; one step-son John (Cindy) Wirkler; two step-daughters-in-law LaVonne Wirkler and Diane Wirkler; and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, and two hours before services at the church.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
