George Kohlmann, son of Conrad and Margaretha Kohlmann, was born at Nurnberg, Germany, on December 12, 1879. He died at Mercy Hospital, Waverly, Iowa, Sunday October 21, 1961, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and nine days.

George Kohlmann came to America at the age of seven. He was married to Alberta Cummings on April 25, 1911, at Chicago. It was in 1910 that he came to Postville where he was a resident for 45 years.

He served as a director of the Citizens State Bank from 1920 to 1955, also was its president for a number of years. Mr. Kohlmann was engaged in the retail clothing business in Postville for many years.

He was a "Fifty Year Mason" having belonged to the Metropolitan Lodge in Dubuque. He also belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Commercial Club in Postville. On April 2, 1953 he united with the Community Presbyterian Church.

For the past seven years George Kohlmann lived with his nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kohlmann of Waverly, where he was cared for.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died June 26, 1961 and a daughter Elizabeth, who died October 12, 1954.

Surviving is one brother, Albert Kohlmann of Chicago, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at the Community Presbyterian Church, Tuesday at 12:30 with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the services. Burial was in Linwood cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa.
