HENRY BECHTEL FUNERAL TUESDAY

81-YEAR-OLD MAN SUCCUMBS AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN LANSING.Henry Bechtel, 81, died Saturday evening at 10:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gotlieb Schallhammer, at Lansing. He had been ill the past eight months. Death was caused by hardening of the arteries and infirmities of old age.
Henry Theodore Bechtel was born Dec. 28 in the year 1859 in Allamakee county to Isaac and Margretta Bechtel. He was married to Miss Lizzie Schoenthal Sept. 23, 1880 in Center township. He lived on a farm in Center township until his retirement some years ago when he moved to Lansing. Besides his wife, whom he married sixty-one years ago this September, he is survived by six daughters (Minnie), Mrs. J. J. Wendel, Lansing; (Hattie), Mrs. William Sess, Center township; (Ada), Mrs. Gotlieb Schallhammer; (Lottie), Mrs. Alfred Williams, Waukon; (Myrtle), Mrs. Lloyd Miller, LaCrosse; (Ruth), Mrs. Oscar Holmes, Dubuque, and three sons, Henry of Waukon and Alfred and Roy of Church. A son, Arthur, and a daughter, Martha, preceded him in death. He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Bechtel is the last to survive of a family of eleven, of which he was the eldest.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Gotlieb Schallhammer home with the Rev. Henry Marks in charge. Burial was made in the Oakhill cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Irvin and Herbert Sess, Myrlin and Harold Bechtel, Art and Curtis Wendel.
Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William Sess and family of Center township, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Williams and family of Waukon, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd miller and family of LaCrosse, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Holmes of Dubuque, Mr. And Mrs. Henry Bechtel of Waukon and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bechtel and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bechtel of Church.

Death of Henry T. Bechtel
Mr. Henry Theodore Bechtel passed away Saturday evening about 10;30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gotlieb Schellhammer. He had been ill for many months, bedfast the past eight, and death was caused from hardening of the arteries.
Deceased was born Dec. 28, 1859 in Center township, a son of the late Isaac and Margretta Bechtel, pioneer residents of that community. He was the eldest of eight children, all of whom with their parents have preceded him in death. His early education was received in the rural schools of the county where his entire life was spent.
On Sept. 23, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Schoenthal at Waukon. They were the parents of eleven children, a daughter Martha dying in infancy, and a son Arthur
also preceding his father in death. Besides his widow he leaves nine children to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. They include his daughters, Minnie, Mrs. J. J. Wendel; Hattie, Mrs. William Sess; Ada, Mrs. Gotlieb Schellhammer, of Lansing; Myrtle, Mrs. Lloyd Miller, La Crosse; Ruth , Mrs. Oscar Holm, Dubuque; Lottie, Mrs. Alfred William and Henry of Waukon; and Alfred and Roy of Churchtown. Among other relatives surviving are 23 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.Mr. Bechtel spent most of his life farming, from which he retired and moved to Lansing many years ago. He was known as a kind neighbor and staunch friend, ready and willing to give assistance whenever possible. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Gotlieb Schellhammer home with the Rev. Henry Marks officiating. Interim was in the family lot in Oak HIll cemetery with six grandsons, Harold and Merlin Bechtel, Curtis and Arthur Wendel, Herbert and Irvin Sess, acting as pall bearers.
