Final Rites For F. W. Oestmann

Funeral service for Frederick "Fritz" W. Oestmann, 87, were Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Frederick William Oestmann, son of Frederick William and Rosina (Rabe) Oestmann, was born March 24, 1894 at Bremen, Illinois. He died June 7, 1981 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

His father died when he was a small boy and in 1900 he accompanied his mother, brother William and Grandfather Rabe to Hancock county to live with an uncle. His mother remarried in 1906 to John C. Schroeder of Postville and since then the family has lived here.

He was baptized in Illinois and confirmed at St. Paul April 12, 1908. He married Alvina Ihde of Castalia on November 26, 1918. They were the parents of six children. They farmed in the Postville area and moved onto his stepfather's farm in Henderson Prairie when his mother died in 1928.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, stepfather, a son and daughter in infancy, a daughter, Rosina, a brother, William, and a stepbrother, Arthur Schroeder.

Survivors include a son, Willard J.; a daughter, Mrs. Orville V. (Ora Gene) Meyer, both of Postville, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a step-sister, Mrs. Anna Ruckdaschel, Postville.
