Thomas H. Whalen died January 24, 1933. Obituary in the Allamakee Journal newspaper reads:

Death of Thomas Whalen

Friends and relatives hereabouts were shocked last Wednesday to learn of the death of Thomas Whalen, following a short illness with flu, at his home in Lafayette township, many not knowing of his illness.

Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kern Whalen, pioneers of Lafayette twp., and is survived by his wife, who was Miss Catherine Bohrer, and two sons, Michael and John, both at home. Mrs. Whalen has been an invalid for several years, and cared for at all times by the husband and sons, who never left her alone, and the boys will probably continue to do so.

Mr. Whalen was born Aug. 18, 1871, in Lafayette township, where he spent his entire lifetime and was held in the highest esteem by a host of relatives and friends. Besides his widow and sons, he is survived by four brothers and four sisters, as follows: William, Milwaukee; Kern, Oklee, Minn.: Joseph and George, Lansing; Mrs. Kate Manning, Lafayette; Mrs. Frances Byrnes, Lansing; Mrs. Gus Mootz, Merrill, Wis.; Mrs. Herbert Cooper, Dubuque. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him to the grave.

Funeral was held at Immaculate Conception church, Wexford, Friday morning at 9 o’clock, the pastor, Rev. Daniel O’Sullivan, celebrating the Requiem Mass and preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church, and the following gentleman acted as pall bearers: John Henry Whalen, Mike Mullarkey, Joes Sullivan, Ben Kelleher, Joe Delaney, Will Manning.

The Journal joins with many friends in extending sympathy to the Bereaved ones left to mourn.
