William B. Manning (November 12, 1896 – Feb. 22, 1969) son of MIchael and Catherine Whalen Manning is buried at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing, IA

Obituary for William B. Manning in the Allamakee Journal newspaper reads:

Another sudden death last weekend was that of William B. Manning, 72, who was found dead in his bed at the home on Bench St. Saturday morning a little before noon time by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Manning. The latter couple had gone to take him to the funeral of Joe Weipert whose wake he attended early Friday evening at the Burke chapel.

He was born November 12, 1896 in Lafayette township to Mike and Catherine Manning and was educated in the rural schools of the vicinity. On June 9th, 1930 he was married to Florence Ferring at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing and they farmed in Lafayette until his health failed, they moving to Lansing in 1944 which has since been their home. He has had a serious heart condition for many years and within the last few years had been hospitalized a couple of times. He was a member of the Rosary Society and honorary pallbearers from that association were Gene Brennan, Cyril Hurm, Kern Kelleher, Theodore Kerndt, Joe Walleser and Leo Krieger.

The concelebrated Requiem Mass was held at Immaculate Conception church yesterday morning at ten o’clock with Father Cyril Engler celebrant assisted by Father Robert Ferring of Loras College, Dubuque.

Besides his widow he is survived by two brothers, Joseph of Lansing and Kern, of Merrill, Wis. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death the latter pair within a week with the flu epidemic of 1918.

Active casket bearers were Harold Manning, James Troendle, Ralph Lyons, Leo Conway, Will Ferring and Leo Garin, all of Allamakee county. Interment was in Gethsemane Cemetery.
