Olga C. Overland, 99, died April 27, 1991, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 1, 1991, at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Glenn Kappelmann officiating. Soloist was Clifford Grindeland and organist, Mark Baumann. Burial was in Phelps Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home, Decorah, in charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Lowell Brandt, Jeff Overland, Joel Overland, John Overland, Mark Overland, Paul Overland and Mark Zieman.

She was born in Rushford, Minnesota to Martin and Gunild (Gunderson) Smestad on October 9, 1891. She was baptized and confirmed in the Norse Language at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, Minnesota; and attended the rural schools in the Rushford, Minnesota area.

On October 27, 1914, she married Edward J. Overland at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, Minnesota. They had four children. They farmed in Minnesota until moving to Postville in 1932. They moved to Decorah in 1941.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Decorah and was active in the ALCW. She was also a member of the Luther College Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Geneva, three grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Surviving are three sons: James and wife, Margaret of Postville, IA; Ernest and wife, Shirley of Custer, SD, Robert and wife, Blanche of Fairfield Bay, AR, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
