Last Rites for James Marsden

A mass of requiem was said Wednesday July 1 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church for James Matthew Marsden of Waukon. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Frederic Heles officiated and interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Carl Brandsmeier, Clarence Brandsmeier, Fred Gordon, Alfred Hansmeier, John Campbell, and Orlando Anderson were casket bearers. Bakke and Hanson was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Marsden who was a retired farmer, lived in Allamakee County all of his life time. He died Monday June 29 in Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital and had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center. He was born Jan 5, 1885 in Waukon and was a son of Matthew James and Mary Jones Marsden. He was educated in the rural schools and May 22, 1919 married Net Riley in St.John the Baptist Church, West Ridge. She preceded him in death. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Pat (Mary) O'Malley, Waukon, and Mrs. Roger (Betty) Ernst of Waterloo, and three sons, Robert J. Marsden, Cedar Rapids, John F. of Waukon and Donald (Mike) of Mabel, Minn. Twenty-two grandchildren and three brothers, Arthur, Frank, and Bert Marsden, also survive.
