John Becker

Relatives and friends of John Becker were shocked to hear of his sudden death which occurred at his home in Lansing township about seven o'clock Friday evening from a heart attack. He had been in failing health for some time and was in town only the day before. He was born June 3rd, 1879, in Lansing township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John P. Becker. He attended the schools of the county and spent most of his life hereabouts. On Nov 23rd, 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hammell, at St. Joseph's Church, New Albin. She preceded him in death a few years ago; left to mourn his passing are four daughters; Mrs. Vivian (Anna) Zoll, Mrs. Leo (Theresa) McCabe, Waukon; Mrs. Ursula Quanrude, Decorah; Mrs. Garland (Elizabeth) Burroughs; three sons, Aloysious, Joseph, and George who are at home. Other immediate survivors included his two sister, Miss Barbara of Lansing, and Mrs. Joe (Lucy) Chamberlain, Chicago, and fourteen grandchildren. Deceased was a life long member of Immaculate Conception Church, Lansing, an energetic farmer who was well known in the auctioneering field for many years. The funeral services were held at I.C. Church at 9 o'Clock Monday morning with the Mass of Requiem celebrated by Father Sharphoff who also officiated at the graveside in Gethsemane. Casket bearers were Harold Troendle, William Lenz, William Hammell, Charles Hammell, John Haas, and John W. Wendel.
