Lester A. Neverman

Lester A. Neverman, 83, of Waukon, died Monday, Sept. 1 at Veterans Memorial hospital.

He was the son of Henry and Louise (Pupka) Neverman, born May 19, 1897 in Castalia. He attended Castalia schools and was married to Velma Brandt Jan. 16, 1919. She died Nov. 22, 1965. He then married Selma Johnson Dec. 10, 1966 in Waukon.

He was a farmer and fieldman for the American Dairy Association. He built the religious shrine at the Wexford Church near Harpers Ferry.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Earl of Waukon; Maurice of Watertown, Wis.; and Claire of Jesup; two daughters, Mrs. Darwin (Ardis) Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mrs. Ralph (Wanda) Anderson of Waukon; 26 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arnold of Luana and Harold of Cedar Rapids.

He is also survived by four step-daughters and seven step-sons: Marnetta Snitker, Mrs. Stanley Berg and LaVern Johnson, all of Postville; Mrs. Gary Gress, Mrs. James Bloxham, Roger Johnson, Marland (Bud) Johnson, Dale Johnson and Dean Johnson, all of Waukon; and Keith Johnson and Dwayne Johnson, all of Elgin; 44 step grandchildren and 44 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by a brother Frederick.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon, with the Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiating at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
