Hilma (Kuhse) Kohrs Miller
Hilma Kohrs Miller, 87, Monona, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, Postville.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday.
She was born July 6, 1919, in rural Postville, to Fred and Anna (Meyer) Kuhse. She was baptized July 21, 1919, at St. Paul's in Postville by Rev. R.E. Schmidt and confirmed there by Rev. R.B. Garten. Hilma attended country school through eighth grade.
On Dec. 21, 1938, Hilma was united in marriage to Delbert Kohrs by Rev. F.R. Ludwig at the home of her parents. Six children were born to this union. They farmed in the Castalia and Postville area until 1964, when they started employment at the county care facility in Independence. Delbert passed away in April of 1980. Hilma continued working until she was married to Harlin Miller in 1983, by Pastor Harold Ward. Harlin passed away Feb. 4, 2003.
Survivors include six children: Wesley (Judy) Kohrs, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Denny (Shelva) Kohrs, Postville; Barbara Burns, Postville; Karen (Jack) Jaster, Ossian; Gary (Cindy) Kohrs, Independence; Gloria (DeWayne) Janey, Shellsburg; and three step-children: Joyce (Bob) Melcher, Monona; Dale (Arlene) Miller, Fredericksburg, and Ronald (Diana) Miller, Monona; step-son-in-law, Leonard (Edie) Seitz, Elkader; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ivanelle Kuhse, Postville, and Opal Kuhse, Traer.
Hilma was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one grandson, Darrin Smock; one step-daughter, Marlys Seitz; one son-in-law, Robert Burns; three brothers: Victor, Lorenz and Milo Kuhse; six sisters: Lillian Braun, Hulda Block, Helen Peterson, Alma Kuhse, Orma Benzing, Pearl Folsom; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Casket bearers were Jeff Kohrs, Steve Smock, Kevin Kohrs, John Jaster, Josh Kohrs, Corey Pester and Jarin Janey. Honorary bearers were Tim Kohrs, Brad Smock, Shane Kohrs, Chad Jaster and Dylan Janey.
