Elliott Nelson

Funeral services for Elliott Nelson were held Thursday, March 3, 11 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Luana Cemetery.

Elliott Nelson, son of Christian and Hilda (Torgerson) Nelson, was born August 5, 1900 in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He died Monday, February 29, 1988 in Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

He attended the rural schools in Franklin Township and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. On June 4, 1927 he was married to Vera Stafford at the Methodist Parsonage in Waukon. They had 2 daughters.

From 1923 to 1931 Elliott was the Secretary at the Luana Creamery. He was employed as a buttermaker at the Waterville Creamery from 1931 until 1934 and at the Luana Creamery from 1934 to 1941. They farmed from 1941 to 1956. He was employed as a buttermaker at Balltown, Iowa from 1956-1961. They had lived in the Luana and Calmar areas and moved to Postville in 1975.

He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, the Retired Buttermaker's Association and the Senior Citizens of Postville.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Vera, who died January 7, 1981, 6 brothers: Harry, Louis, Melvin, Martin, Oscar and Carl; 2 sisters: Anna McShane and Mean Orth and a half-sister, Myrtle Howard.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Allan (Beverly) Bacon and Mrs. Hilery (Joyce) Heins, both of Postville; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Mrs. Milton (Selma) Schierholz, Postville and Mrs. Paul (Clara) Blessum, Arlington, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Lynn Heins, Dwight, Dan and Jerry Bacon, Harold Nelson and Lloyd Lamborn.
