Edward Nelson

Funeral services were held for Edward Nelson, Saturday, October 17, 1987 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Edward Nelson, son of Christian L. and Karinne (Kittelson) Nelson was born August 1, 1898 in Marion Township, Clayton County, near Gunder, Iowa. He died Tuesday, October 13, 1987 at his home in Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. He attended the rural schools of that area.

On March 6, 1926 he was married to Sarah Lennon by the Rev. John Glesne of the Decorah Lutheran church. They had two sons. The remainder of his life was spent in Postville where he worked a number of years for the city as sewer superintendent and later as caretaker of the Postville Cemetery for a total of 41 years. He retired in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rev. Francis Nelson, five sisters, Laura Madson, Ida Halvorson, Priscilla Martie, Clara Martie, Mary Wullner, and one brother, Clarence.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah, one son Edgar, of Tempe, AZ, 3 granddaughters, Kimberly Nelson, Kara Sheldon, Kristen Nicklay, 2 grandsons, Steve Nelson, and Philip Nelson, and six great grandchildren, Alan, Adam, and Ryan Sheldon, Drew and Lindy Nelson, and Cory Nicklay.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Ed loved his work and took much pride in it. He also loved his coffee breaks and enjoyed fishing with his two sons.

Casket Bearers: Steve Nelson, Roger Nicklay, David Luhman, Philip Nelson, Rick Sheldon, Tom Luhman.

Honorary Casket Bearers: Page Wirkler, Mabel Meyer, David Schutte, James Lennon, Elbert Jahancke, Everett Cook, LaVila Schmidt, Marvin Chevalier, Marie Meyer, Milo Meyer, Gale Block.
