Delilia Elizabeth Palmer

Delilia Elizabeth Palmer, 82, of West Salem, WI, formerly of Waukon, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services were held Friday, June 19 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial was at Bethel Cemetery, Osterdock.

Delilia Elizabeth Halverson Palmer was born March 30, 1927 in Postville, the daughter of Martin and Mamie (Warnholtz) Halverson. She lived a number of places in Allamakee County while growing up and attended Lansing schools. Following her schooling, she helped take care of her younger sisters and other things at home.

August 23, 1946 Del married Leslie Palmer in Galena, IL. They lived in Garnavillo and Elkader, as well as a number of other places before settling in Waukon in 1959. Del worked as a seamstress and sales clerk at B&B Clothing in Waukon for 15 years. She has lived in the West Salem, WI area since 1993.

Del volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher and also as a Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scout Pack. She was an accomplished seamstress and did wonderful projects sewing and embroidering. She loved to play cards and taught first her children and then her grandchildren lots of different games. Her family was always the focal point of her life and she spent as much time with them as possible, often traveling with or to see them in various parts of the country.

Survivors include her six children, Dennis (Maureen) Palmer and Gary (Nancy) Palmer, both of Bakersfield, CA, Wayne Palmer of Kansas City, KS, Connie (Clark) Ellenbolt of West Salem, WI, Deborah Fleshner of Spring Grove, MN, and Brian (Julie) Palmer of Holmen, WI; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kathleen (Rodney) Olson and Marian (Duane) Meier, both of Lansing, and Marilyn (William) Macke of Solgohachia, AR; and three brothers, Leo Halverson of Waukon, Harvey (Rose) Halverson of Mulberry, FL and Kenneth Halverson of Woodman, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leslie, who died in 1971; three infant sons, Bruce and two twins; a granddaughter, Jennifer; and five brothers, Eugene, Frederick, Roger, Lynn, and Dorf Halverson.

Casketbearers were Travis Ellenbolt, Brenda Kleven, Roger and Troy Halverson, Tom and Steve Scholtes, Mike Kast and Mike Ehde.
