Rites Held For Martin HarrisFuneral services were held Monday, July 6, at the Frankville Presbyterian Church for Martin E. Harris, who died July 4 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville. Student Pastor Lloyd Sorenson conducted the rites; burial was in Postville cemetery.
Martin E. Harris, son of J.W. [James William] and Caroline [Segrist] Harris, was born in Allamakee county May 14, 1888 and passed away July 4, 1964 at the age of 76 years, one month and 20 days. He was united in marriage to Arvilla B. Brainard on May 20, 1914. To this union were born five children.
He resided in Winneshiek County for nearly 50 years. The past year he lived at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Edgewood, with his wife. He was a member of the Frankville Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Mrs. Glen Gustafson (Beth) of East Lansing, Michigan, Mrs. Patrick Scully (Hope) of Chicago, Lt. Col. Paul Harris of Izmir, Turkey, and Mrs. Lyle Zieman (Leah) of Luana, 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Fast of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Lester Smith (Dora) of Postville, Mary Evans of Waukon, Mrs. Fred Lawson (Ella) of Postville, and Mrs. Ernest Johnson (Lucile) of Dexter, Minnesota; two brothers, J. Fred of Monona and Obert of Postville.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Mrs. Ed. Barnes (Florence).
