Carol Jeanette Hanson

Carol J. Hanson, 87, of Waukon died Monday, May 18 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, May 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of the arrangements.

Carol Jeanette Hanson was born May 24, 1921 in Waukon, the daughter of Carl J. and Josephine (Hanson) Hanson. She attended Hanson rural country school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1940 with a Normal Training Certificate and attended summer courses at Luther College in Decorah. In 1962 Carol moved into Waukon from the Makee Township farm where she lived for 40 years. She was an elementary school teacher for 42 years with her last 20 years in Dorchester before retiring in 1983.

Carol was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA. She was also a member of the Women's Civic Club and the local retired teachers group. Carol enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening and trying new food recipes.

Survivors include a brother, Alvin (Lyla) Hanson of Waukon; nieces and nephews, Denise (Brian) Wullner of Waukon, Janet (Jeff) Mezera of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jeff (Erica) Hanson of Waukon and Deb (John) Pladsen of Chanhassen, MN; great-nieces and nephews, Justin and Jordan Mezera, Sarah Wullner, Joey, Ethan and Emily Hanson, Katie and Will Pladsen; and two step-great nephews, Donny Nykannen and Kevin Belle. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anna Hanson; and a great-niece, Jamie Mezera.

Honorary casketbearers were her great-nieces and nephews. Casketbearers were her nephews.
