Florence Madelia Waters

Florence Madelia (Wild) Waters, 85, of New Albin passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Monday, May 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dorchester, officiated by Fr. Joseph Schneider, Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg, Fr. Daniel Knipper, and Fr. Louis Trzil. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Dorchester. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.

Florence was born May 11, 1923 to E.L. and Maude (Piers) Wild in French Creek Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church, Dorchester. She attended French Creek #2 and Waukon High School, graduating in 1940.

July 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to Floyd Waters at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin. She and Floyd made their home on Floyd's family farm in Union City Township, where they farmed for many years. Later in life, she sold Avon for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dorchester. She taught CCD for many years and was a member of the Rosary Society. Florence loved playing cards, and was a member of many social clubs, including the New Albin Senior Citizens. She also volunteered at Makee Manor.

Survivors include her children, Mary (Rodney) Fink of Waukon, Kate (Tony) Urell of Waukon, Jim (Dorothy) Waters of New Albin, Harold (Carol) Waters of New Albin, Joann (Jim) Schwartzhoff of Dorchester, Tom Waters of New Albin, Jean (John) Gavin of Lansing, and Ray Waters of Brownsville, MN; one sister, Elaine (Dale) Reiser of Dorchester; 29 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, six step great-grandchildren, and four step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; one infant son, Timothy; one grandson, Tom Urell; one sister, Lorrayne Zezulka; and three brothers, Harris, Keith, and Walter Wild. Florence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
