Charles Keenan informs us of the death of Wm. Scanlon, which took place May 3 at San Jose, Cal. The deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. C. Keenan, and a brother James Scanlon, both residing in this county. Mr. Scanlon was one of the earlier residents of the county, settling in Taylor township at about the same period that Father Hoar established his colony at Wexford. He disposed of his farm about twenty years ago and about eighteen years ago went to California for the benefit of his health and has resided there since. His wife died some eight years ago. Mr. Scanlon was a very intelligent man, modest and unassuming and of rigid uprightness of character. The older people in Taylor and Lafayette townships undoubtedly remember him with kindly feelings and will be sorry to hear of his having passed away. He was an old time patron and friend of the JOURNAL and we extend our sympathy to the relatives.
