Following high school, Mary worked at the Wilson Meat Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids. She married Donald B. Berger August 27, 1949 in Iowa City. A few years later they moved to Waukon, where she has lived ever since.

Mary was an avid sports fan, especially following the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed bowling and golfing and also collected stamps and spoons. In the past few years Mary has really enjoyed her Wednesday and Thursday "lunches out" with her friends. Many of Mary's favorite times were spent visiting with and following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Darold (Debbie) Berger of Waukon; a grandson, David (Audrey) Berger and their children, Damon and Dawson; and a granddaughter, Dacia (Brian) Regan and their children, Brody, Ireland, Bren and Owen, all of Waukon; five brothers, Frank, Tony, Joe (Barb), Louis (Mary Lou) and George (Cecelia) Roman; and two sisters, Aggie Thomas and Hellen (Roger) Blietz, all of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, who died in 1994; and one sister, Ann Milota.

Casketbearers were Jim, Joe Jr., and Steve Roman, Brian Blietz, David Ludeking and Thomas Roskop.
