Leonard Paulson Dies In St. Paul Hospital

The following, handed us by John Waters, is from the Minneapolis Journal of April 27th, and will be of interest here as Mr. Paulson's widow is a former Postville girl (Melissa Flynn) who will have the heartfelt sympathy of many old friends in the great loss she has sustained:

Leonard Paulson, general secretary of the St. Paul Y. M. C. A., and a nationally known figure in "Y" work, died today at Midway hospital of pneumonia. He was 42 years old and lived at 1169 Dayton avenue, St. Paul. He had been ill since April 19.

Mr. Paulson came to head the St. Paul Y. M. C. A. staff from St. Louis where he was boys work secretary for the western region for the national Y. M. C. A. council. He took over his work in St. Paul on August 1, succeeding J. R. Thompson.

Born in Cherokee, Iowa, Mr. Paulson spent his early days near Fairmont, Minn. He was graduated from the State College at Ames in 1908 and that year became high school Y. M. C. A. secretary at Washington, Iowa. He was the first to hold a similar position in this country.

As secretary of the boys' work, department of the St. Paul Y. M. C. A., from 1914 to 1916, he was instrumental in establishing the Hamline and Tri-Park branches of the St. Paul Y. M. C. A. He also supervised the construction of the buildings and grounds of Camp Croix, the Y. M. C. A. camp for boys at Hudson, Wis.

After leaving St. Paul in 1916, Mr. Paulson became boys' secretary for the central Y. M. C. A. region in the United States. Later, when he became boys work secretary for all of South America he lived in Montevideo, Uraguay.

Surviving are his wife, four children, Virginia, Gail, Kathleen and Leonard; his father, Ole Paulson of Princeton, Minn., a brother, A. C. Paulson of Fridley, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. A. Carlson, Pennock, Minn.
