Vernon Miller

Vernon Carl Miller, of Postville, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. He was 90.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, January 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Steve Brackett officiated. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery, Postville. The Schutte - Grau Funeral Home, Postville, was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon was born on September 18, 1918, rural Postville, to William Frederick and Louise (Krueger) Miller. Vernon was baptized on October 16, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. He attended country school through the eighth grade.

Vernon was united in marriage to Lorna Leona Goeke on May 23, 1945, at Zion United Church on Christ, Waukon. Four children were born to this union. Vernon farmed his entire life and lived on the farm until moving into the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon three months ago. He farmed in several locations in the Postville and Waukon area, which he enjoyed very much.

Vernon was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River and knew all of the good fishing spots. Vernon loved to eat vanilla ice cream, attending "Old Time Dances" with mom and eating at the City Club for lunch every day possible. Vernon will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Roland Miller; two sisters, Evelyn (Earl) Walsh, and Helen (Charles) Bahr; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Beisker and Ed McKee.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronald (Pethai) Miller, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and David (Jan) Miller, Postville; two daughters, Carol Luhmann, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Lisa (Ron) Moose, Waukon; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jay) Shupe, Melissa Miller, Ross Luhmann, Allison Luhmann, Darrel (Mary) Miller, Brian (Kayla) Miller, Josie (Bill) Noecker, Mitchell Moose, and Riley Moose; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Shupe, Jessica and Raleigh Farquier, Laynee and Michael Benson, Keira Miller, Harlie Kay Miller; two sisters, Arlene Beisker, Waukon, and Leone McKee, Waukon, and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Miller, Postville.
