Esther Anderson

Esther M. Anderson, of Postville, formerly of Olds, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Postville. She was 93.

Services were held Tuesday, January 27, at the Olds United Church of Christ. Pastor Elaine Vass officiated. Casket bearers were Chan Williams, Sheldon Williams, Sam Williams and John Murphy. Honorary casket bearers were Doug Williams, Eric and Gary Anderson, and Roger Neuweg. Burial was in the Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. Kimzey Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant was in charge of arrangements.

Esther was born on February 21, 1915, in Merced, Calif., to Lincoln Houghton and Loula Mary May Eaton. She graduated from University High School in West Los Angeles, Calif., in 1932. On November 17, 1935, she was united in marriage to Harold Fredrick Anderson in California.

A longtime homemaker, Esther moved from California with her husband to Iowa in 1939. She enjoyed reading, poetry, bird watching and watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye's Basketball team.

She was a member of the Olds UCC Women's church circle, UMW of Finley Chapel UMC in rural Wayland, and Prairie Queens Women's Club. She was a member of the Olds United Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, and two brothers, Allen and Lansing Eaton.

She is survived by her children, Spencer (Lynnann) Anderson of Ridgeway, N.J., Fredrick (Roseanne) Anderson of Huntsville, Ala., and Ellen (Allen) Wahls of Postville; her grandchildren, Esther (Shawn) Felt of Pensacola, Fla., Elizabeth (Rob) Dailey of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy (Linda) Wahls of Dillsburg, Pa., Kimberly (Lance) Seefeldt of Providence, Utah, Susan (Jeremy) Beebout of Niamey, Niger, West Africa, Sara (Jason) Menne of West Union, Samantha Wahls (Kent Ericson) of Brookings, S.D., Mary Beth (Thomas) O'Hara of Philadelphia, Pa., Emity Anderson of Alexandria, Va., and Megan Anderson of Bloomington, Ind.; and her great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Elise Felt, Carolyn Dailey, Christopher and Nicholas Seefeldt, Lydia and Eliza Beebout, and Ariana and Kavin Menne.
