Nora Staggemeyer

Nora Staggemeyer, 93, formerly of Eitzen, MN, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21 at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ (Wheatland Church), rural New Albin. Rev. Paul Burgess will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center Tuesday, January 20 from 5-8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday, January 21 from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home of Caledonia is in charge of arrangements.

Nora was born August 8, 1915 in Iowa Township, Allamakee County to William and Louise (Bisping) Burmester. Nora attended the Irish Hollow School in rural New Albin. She was confirmed in 1930 at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Albin.

September 18, 1943 Nora married Armin Staggemeyer. Together they farmed in New Albin for many years. Later, Nora worked at a factory in Lansing. July 29, 1970 Armin preceded her in death. Nora then moved off the farm to Eitzen, MN, where she lived for many years. In December of 2006, she moved to Thornton Manor in Lansing. Nora was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ (Wheatland Church) in rural New Albin. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and doing crafts.

Survivors include three children, Kenneth (Jane) Staggemeyer of New Albin, Lambert (Joyce) Staggemeyer of Eitzen, MN, and Dorothy (Jim) Waters of New Albin; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Stella Burmester of New Albin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Nora was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Anne Staggemeyer; one sister, Margaret (Carson) Sievers; and two brothers, Elmer and Louis Burmester.
