Rites Are Held For Earl Miller

Services were conducted Tuesday, September 1 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville for Earl F. Miller, who passed away August 30 at the Community Memorial Hospital at the age of 72 years and 22 days. The Rev. Lenwood L. Monte officiated. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Waukon.

Earl F. Miller was born on a farm in Franklin Township on August 8, 1897. He was the son of John F. and Annetta Sawyer Miller.

Mr. Miller was educated in the rural schools near his farm and attended Waukon Jr. College. Earl farmed all his life in Allamakee County until retiring. He lived a year and nine months at Ossian before moving to Postville in June of this year.

On September 26, 1925 he was united in marriage to Marion Stock. To this union three sons were born: Frederick of Waukon, Roger and Kermit of Postville; and two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Lloyd Clark) of Postville and Ruth (Mrs. Richard Quandahl) of Waukon, all of whom survive. Mrs. Miller passed away October 17, 1963. On August 15, 1964 he was married to Belvina Schweinefus Easler.

Mr. Miller took great pride in civic affairs of the area having served the last 25 and a half years as President of the Luana Savings Bank; on the Board of Directors of the Allamakee-Clayton REC since it was organized in 1940 and was presently serving as Vice President of that organization; a Director of the Dairyland Power Cooperative of La Crosse the last 23 years; and at one time had served as President of the Postville Farmers Telephone Company, a post which he held for five years. Area farmers will remember Earl as a Surge dealer for many years. He was also active as a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Toastmasters Club of Waukon and the Allamakee County Farm Bureau. Earl was an active member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his five children, his wife Belvina, five step-sons, two brothers; Ross of Cedar Rapids and Harva of Monona; one sister, Florence Miller of Phoenix, Arizona and 16 grandchildren.
