Mrs. William F. Fitzgerald (1883 – 1916)

Young Wife Passes Away

Mrs. Wm. F. Fitzgerald closed her eyes in the sleep of death at her home in this city on Friday morning last, following an illness of several months duration, through all of which she bore patiently her sufferings and resignedly laid down life’s comforted by the last ministrations of the Catholic faith.

Margaret Ryan was born in Ludlow township, Aug 24, 1883. Her childhood days were spent on the old homestead near Frankville, where she grew to womanhood. On June 17, 1912, she was married to William Fitzgerald of this city, who is now bereft of her loving companionship. She endeared herself to a wide circle of friends by her kindly, genial disposition and her passing has occasioned feelings of deepest sorrow.

Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. James Ryan, the following brothers and sisters survive: James J of Union Prairie; Joseph and Thomas of Ludlow; Mrs. Dan Drew of Cresco; Mrs. William Drew of Union Prairie, Sarah, Mary and Elizabeth at home and Sr. Miriam of Cedar Rapids.

All were present at the funeral which was held Monday morning at St. Patrick’s church. Solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev Fr. Norton, assisted by Fr. Clune of Postville and Fr. Roache of Waukon. Father Clune, her former pastor, delivered a fitting eulogy of the deceased, Interment took place in Mount Olivet cemetery. A number of friends from Postville and Frankville were in attendance at the services.
