LeRoy Charles Bollman

LeRoy C. Bollman, 71, of Waukon died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services were held Saturday, November 22 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating, and military services following the service at the funeral home.

LeRoy Charles Christian Bollman was born July 9, 1937 in rural Harpers Ferry, the son of Lawrence Moody and Helen Marie (Krambeer) Bollman. He attended Linton #6 country school in rural Allamakee County. LeRoy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1957, where he was stationed at Lackland and McConnell Air Force Base.

June 13, 1958 he married Frances Loretta Jones at the Methodist Church in Monona. They lived in Dubuque for a short time, where he did cement work. LeRoy and Frances farmed in the Monona area from 1959 to 1960. LeRoy did logging and construction work until he retired.

He enjoyed cooking, playing cards, picking up walnuts, hunting, fishing, clamming, hunting for mushrooms, ginseng and golden seal, and working on cars. LeRoy collected John Wayne memorabilia and old model cars and trucks.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Bollman of Waukon; his children, Joan (Lennie) Shurtleff of Monona, Don (Kristy) Bollman of Waterville, Cindy (Neil) Landt of Luana, Sue Stone and friend Terry Grotegut of Waukon; and Robin (Jeff) Jones of Monona; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Marie (Jim) Farmer of Postville, Jane (Donnie) Kregel of Luana, Loretta Bollman of St. Louis Park, MN, Lillian (Ron) Kidman of Jackson, MI, Karen (Phil) Holvenstot of New Hope, MN and JoAnn Bollman of Arlington, TX; three brothers, Raymond (Joan) Bollman of Swisher, Robert (Maxine) Bollman of Osage, and Fred Bollman of Harpers Ferry; and his father-in-law, Carlton Jones of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helen Bollman; two sons-in-law, Maurice McGeough and Joe Stone; twin granddaughters, Charity and Chasity McGeough; a great-grandson, Shawn Hughes, Jr; and his mother-in-law, Helen Jones.

Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren, Cody, Jason and Jake Bollman, Samantha Drain, Heather Goeke, Kayla Grimm, Casey Howard, Shawn and Scott Hughes, Christopher, Drake, John, Megan, Lucas and Niki Jones, and Cyrus and Maury Landt.
