Marguerite Elizabeth Stockton Spain, 91, of Tempe Arizona, entered the Kingdom of her Lord October 2, 2000. Marguerite was born September 29, 1909 to Oliver and Eliza Stockton in Waukon, Iowa. She accepted her Lord and was Baptized October 17, 1928 by the Rev. Marion C. Powers. She attended grammar and High Schools in Waukon, and graduated in May of 1931. Upon graduation she received her Normal Training Teachers degree. She taught school in Allamakee and Winneshick counties for sixteen years. The last seven in Castalia, Iowa. She received a two year degree in education from Luther College in Decorah in 1955. Marguerite came to Arizona in 1957, and registered in Arizona State University, receiving a B.A. in elementary education in 1959. She taught for the next sixteen years at two Tempe schools. She married Carl Hampton Spain on June 7, 1971. Marguerite was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tempe, Tempe Womens Club, Kappa Kapa Iota, Kapa Delta Gamma, Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxillary. She is survived by sisters Greta Fitzsimmons of Scottsdale AZ.
and Edith Estep of Aurora Co. Brothers, Otis and Lillian, Adrian, Frederick, Charles, and Robert Stockton; step-daughters, Martha Weston, and Virgina Anderson; and many grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, October 21st at First Baptist Church of Tempe, 4525 S. McClintock at 2 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerites name to the First Baptist Church of Tempe, 4525 S. McClintock, Tempe AZ 85282. Arrangements by Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe.
