Harlan Koester

Harlan Robert Koester, age 72, was found dead July 27, 2008 near Eldorado as a result of an accident while he was cutting wood. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, with Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiating. Interment was in St. Peter Cemetery, Eldorado.

Casketbearers were Rob Medberry, Dave Gross, John Grafenberg, Austin Weber, Reggie Gross and Gerald Vagts. Honorary casketbearers were Alan Tupper, Arthur Ihde, Ronald Koester and Roger Yauslin.

Harlan Robert Koester, son of Ernest and Charlotte (Gross) Koester, was born December 10, 1935 at West Union. He graduated from West Union High School in 1954 and served his country with the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959.

December 24, 1969, Harlan was united in marriage to Nadine Dreier at St. Peter Lutheran Church. They were longtime farmers near Waukon. Harlan enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially trapping gophers in west Texas and trapping near the fish farms in Mississippi. He liked trapping any kind of predator.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nadine; his son, Rob Koester of Waukon; his step-son, Greg Koester of Waukon; his step-daughter, Cherrie Koester of Independence; three grandchildren, Jessie, Kayla and Ross Koester; his sister, Ruby and husband William Miller and his brother, Donald and wife LaVerne Koester, all of Eldorado; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
