Julius Gruber Is Taken Friday

FORMER ALLAMAKEEAN COMES BACK TO HIS OLD HOME TO SPEND FINAL DAYS

Julius Gruber passed away Friday evening, October 17, at the home of his son, Leslie, near
Thompsons Corner. Mr Gruber had been in ill health for some time and was brought to the old home about a month ago, from his home in Minneapolis. It was his desire to pass away at the old farm home.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs.Matt Gruber and was born on Gruber Ridge, Lansing, on June 2,1860. On February 12, 1885, he was united in marriage with Miss Bertha Meyer at Thompsons Corner, where they resided on a farm until their removal to Lansing more than 20 years ago. They were the parents of five children, two dying in infancy. About 11 years ago he moved to Minneapolis, where he was employed as painter and interior decorator until his health failed during the past summer.

At one time Mr. Gruber served Allamakee county as County Supervisor and was a steward and trustee of his church. He was a member of the Lansing Evangelical church, transferring his membership to Minneapolis during his residence there.

Another daughter, grown to womanhood preceded him in death, Mrs.Fred Pfatzgraff. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Leslie of Lansing and Herbert of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; two sisters;Mrs.Eva Iste, Hastings, Minn., and Mrs. Hulda Helming of San Diego, California; three brothers, Louis of Cannon Falls, Minn., Edward ans Ferdinand of Lansing. Two sisters, Mrs. James Thompson, and Mrs.John Bakewell preceded him in death. He leaves a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church at Lansing,conducted by Reverend Cramer, on Tuesday afternoon with burial at Oak Hill cenetery.
