Stacia Peterson

Stacia Louise Peterson, 94, of Waukon died Monday, June 9, 2008 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing, with Pastor Laura Gentry officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church before services. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.

Stacia Louise Peterson was born April 29, 1914 in Lansing. Her parents were Theodore Henry and Mayme Elizabeth (Waters) Haerer. Stacia was baptized and confirmed at the German Presbyterian Church in Lansing and attended the Lansing Schools. After her schooling she worked for several years at the button factory in Lansing.

November 2, 1939 she married Donald Harold Peterson at the German Presbyterian Church. Donald's job with the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific Railroad required a lot of travel and for many years Stacia went along with him, helping his co-workers with some of their financial affairs and secretarial needs. Although they maintained their home in Seattle, WA during this time, they were able to visit all of the lower 48 states, something Stacia enjoyed very much. They retired in 1971 and once again took up residence in Lansing.

Stacia spent a lot of her free time doing volunteer work. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing and also helped many adults with learning disabilities to do crafts at several locations in Allamakee County. An accomplished seamstress, she often made matching dresses for her nieces when they were young. She enjoyed gardening and canning, was an excellent cook, and made many quilts and embroidered items which she gave away as gifts. Fishing, playing cards and collecting plates from all of her travels were some of Stacia's other favorite pastimes. She'll be remembered for her witty sense of humor and willingness to take on new adventures.

Survivors include a sister, Ethel Easton of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and two brothers, Theodore and Raymond Haerer.

Honorary casketbearers are Sue and Vicky Easton, Diane McDonough, Julie Gericke, Linda Miller and Bonnie Russell. Casketbearers are Gary, Richard, Roger, Randy and Dean Russell, Steve McDonough, Kevin Dundee and Teddy Haerer.
