Douglas Bartz

Douglas Bartz, age 58, of New Albin and formerly of Milwaukee, WI died Thursday, June 5, 2008 as the result of a traffic accident in Allamakee County. His family invites everyone to an informal gathering and cookout to remember and celebrate Doug's life at the New Albin Community Center this Friday, June 13 from 6 to 10 p.m., with a 7 p.m. tribute.

Doug was born in Milwaukee, WI December 31, 1949 to Armund and Lorraine (Kuehn) Bartz. He recently retired from the Milwaukee Water Works after 33 years of service and was fulfilling his dream of retirement along his beloved Mississippi River.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1996; his mother in 2008; and his yellow lab, Sandy, in 2006.

He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Probst and Cynthia Zywicki of Milwaukee, WI; three brothers, James Bartz of Jackson, MS, Gregory Bartz of Houston, TX, and Armund Bartz of Desoto, WI; numerous nieces and nephews; the woman he loved, Patty Gretzke; many friends; and his yellow lab, Sam.

The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.

Single-vehicle Accident Claims New Albin Man

A one-vehicle accident on Cedar Hill Road, a county gravel road just south of New Albin, Thursday, June 5 claimed the life of 58-year old Douglas Bartz of New Albin. The Allamakee County Sheriff Department received the call at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Bartz was transported by New Albin Rescue to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, where he was pronounced dead. The accident remains under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office.
