Mary Frances Mooney

Mary Frances Mooney, age 90, of Lansing died Friday morning, June 20, 2008 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, June 24 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing.

Mary was born in Nelson, MO December 9, 1917 to John F. and Mary (Gillispie) Cullen. She grew up and went to school in Pilot Grove, MO. Following high school, she moved to Chicago, IL for work and there she met Ray. Mary was married to Raymond Mooney June 3, 1939 at St. Mel's in Chicago. They lived in Chicago until the 1940s, when they moved to Lansing and bought their farm. She enjoyed gardening while on the farm.

Mary is survived by two children, Robert (Delores) Mooney of Oswego, IL and Mary Evelyn (George) Smerud of Anchorage, AK; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five siblings, Rose Green of Kansas City, MO, Margaret McKenna of Kansas City, MO, Patricia Tausch of San Diego, CA, Dorothy Blottman of Kansas City, MO, and William Cullen of Kansas City, MO.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ray September 5, 2006; her sister, Helen Knipp; and her brother, Joe Cullen.

Casketbears were Keenan Johnson, Oran Weaver, Scott Slapak, William Mooney, Leo Mooney and Ben Smerud.
