James H. Shew

James (Jim) H. Shew, 70, of Lansing and San Diego, CA died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at his home in Lansing. With his family by his side, Jim entered into our Lord's home after a valiant fight with cancer.

Memorial mass will be held Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Following the mass, a celebration of Jim's life will be held at Kerndt Brother's Community Center in Lansing. Friends may call one hour before the services at the church. Inurnment will be held Monday, July 7 at Neilsville City Cemetery in Neilsville, WI.

James Harry Shew was born June 16, 1938 in Cataract, WI the son of Cyril and Margery (Cass) Shew. Jim spent his younger years in the Milwaukee, WI area. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1958. After the service he worked as an Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer for JI Case Company, General Tire and RCA.

June 17, 1967 he married Elizabeth C. (Betsy) Troendle at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Jim took a two year sabbatical from industrial work to farm, which he loved very much. In 1980 he and his family moved to the San Diego, CA area, where Jim went to work for General Dynamics/Convair until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of many Catholic Churches, AAIE and the Royal Order of the Moose. Jim was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and Junior Achievement. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, watching TV Westerns, reading Western novels, and spending time on his computer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) of Lansing; his children, Kim Slaby of Eau Claire, WI, Tammy (Dave) Peasley of Black River Falls, WI, Scott (Carol) Shew of River Falls, WI, Kathlene (Thomas) Ebert of Brillion, WI and James (Wendy) Shew of El Cajon, CA; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Shew of Salome, AZ; his step-father, LaVerne Emling of Taylor, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marian Cass.
