Sue A. Ranum, 59, of Waukon died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Monday, June 23 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Pastor Marlin Mincks officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Sue Ann Ranum was born June 6, 1949 in Wapello, the daughter of Donald and Donna (Parsons) Havenhill. She attended Wapello Community Schools. Sue married Stanley Staats in 1967 in Wapello. They were the parents of two children, Tara and Michael. She worked for her sister-in-law in the restaurant business for many years in the Wapello area.
May 15, 1981 she remarried James Ranum at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wapello. After they were married they moved to Waukon. She worked for Cenex Land-O-Lakes LP Gas in Decorah as a bookkeeper for many years.
Sue was a member of Ironridge Church in Waukon. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and traveling with friends to New York and Chicago. Sue also took a trip to Europe with her husband, Jim, and son, Michael. Italy was her favorite place. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was the type of person who made friends very easily. If you met her she became your friend.
Survivors include her husband, James, of Waukon; her children, Tara (Larry) Waters of Lansing, Michael Staats of Plano, TX, Sheila (Greg) Drilling of Riceville, and Travis Ranum of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Kelsey and Kammi Waters, Kyle, Ryan, Madison, Morgan and Marley Drilling. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Billy Don Havenhill; and a sister, Ellen Burcham.
Casketbearers were Bruce Bryant, Tim Burcham, Jim Christensen, Don Cunningham, Joe Havenhill, and Lee Hinkel.
