Funeral Services Held For George Stirn

funeral services for George J. Stirn were held at Immaculated Conception Church in Lansing, Friday morning at 9:30. High Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Scharphoff with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery.

George John Stirn was born November 9, 1877 on the old homestead 6 miles west of Lansing, a son of Frank and Anna Ruttler Stirn. Living on the same farm for 41 years when he retired and moved to Lansing in 1958. He was in the Oakdale Sanatorium one year and three months and was released and returned home. He suffered a heart attack about 3 years ago and had several attacks since. He passed away January 19th at the Waukon Hospital of complications.

On May 26, 1908, he was united in marriage to Catherine Wendler. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1958.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers and an infant son Robert.

He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters and one son; Mrs. Marcella Vonah Hesperia, Calif.; Esther, Mrs. Clarance Kelly, Hustler, Wis.; Donald of Postville; Ruth, Mrs. Wm. Rea, living on the home farm. Three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ferris, Mason City; Mrs. Sophia Bennett, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Emma Gillis, New York; and one brother Otto in Canada. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of fiends.

Pallbearers were Robt. Guider, John Hennessey, John Ferring, Glendon Connor, Frank Ryan and Vincent Spinner.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Catholic order of foresters.

Among the out of town relatives and friends who were in attendance at the funeral services were his daughter, Mrs. Roy Vonah and son Thomas, Hisperia, Calif.; Mrs. Merlin Gramlich, San Bernardino, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stirn, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kelly and son James and daughter Calene, Hustler, Wis.; Mrs. Leona Koenig, Dyersville; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schuster, Mrs. Wilford Schuster, Wilson Kiernan, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Vonah, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schuster, Peosta; Mrs. Lee Evers, Ryan; Emil Schuster, Farley; Mrs. Ed. Kern, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Calvin Krieger and Mrs. Rita Gusloff, Freeport, Ill.

We wish to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and sincerest thanks to all our relatives, friends and neighbors for their many kind acts and comforting sympathy they have shown us in the recent illness and death of our beloved husband and father George Stirn. We also wish to thank Dr. Wiley and all the nurses of the Waukon Hospital for their kindness and help. We are especially grateful to Rev. Father Slepicka for his many prayers and visits to the hospital. To all we are deeply grateful.

Not now, but in the coming years, it may be in the Heavenly Land. Will read the meaning of our tears, some day in Heaven, we'll understand.
