Mrs. John A. Decker Dies Sunday Morning

Mrs. John Adam Decker, nee Mary Eichhorn, was born on May 6, 1846, in Hokkenheim, Baden, Germany. The departed came to America with her parents at the age of six years and they settled on a farm on May's Prairie. Mary Eichhorn was married to John Adam Decker on May 15, 1867, and they were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding in 1817. Fifty-five years of pioneer life of toil and care, also a happy home life. Mr. Decker preceded her in death on March 17, 1923.

The deceased was a faithful member of the German Methodist church and worshiped for many years in the old stone church. Later she became a member of the Lansing Federated church by a letter of transfer. For the past eight years the departed made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Martin, who tenderly gave her the best of care. She passed to her eternal reward Sunday morning, October 28th, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 22 days, death being caused by the infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Decker is known to her friends and neighbors as a home-loving, congenial lady, well liked for her hospitality and friendliness. She leaves to mourn six children, John Decker and family of Lansing, Mrs. Joseph Martin and family, George Decker, Sam Decker and family, Ben and family, and Mrs. Charles Hirth and family, all of Church, one brother, Andrew Hirth and family of Lansing, one sister, Mrs. Annie May and family of Victoria, British Columbia, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, other reala
tives and many friends.

With her passing another one of Allamakee county's pioneer settlers has left us.

While we place her remains into her earthly resting place, her soul went to be with the Lord.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Martin home, Rev. H. J. Noeding officiating, with burial beside her husband in Oak Hill cemetery near Lansing. The pall bearers were the four Decker sons and the two son-in-laws, Messrs. Martin and Hirth., The singers: Mrs. Walter Aschom, Mrs. Arthur Greenley and George Aschom, of this city.
