Accident Fatal To Two Youths Of Community

Rites for Neil Rima will be held at St. Bridget's Catholic Church on Thursday, December 15, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Francis J. Vallaster officiating. Burial will be in Postville cemetery. Neil Michael Rima, age 15, was born January 14, 1934 at Decorah and passed away December 12, 1949. He moved to Postville with his parents in 1936 and began attending school here at that time. He was a sophomore in high school and was a member of the 1949 football squad. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rima, two brothers, Jim and Gene, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris J. Meyer of Elkader and Mrs. Mike Walsh of Decorah.

Two youths from this community were killed and one other was badly inured in a car-bus collision shortly before midnight last Friday on highway 52, two and one-half miles east of Calmar. Merlin Johanningmeier, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johanningmeier, who live south of Luana, died in an ambulance enroute to the Decorah hospital. Neil Rima, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rima of Postville, died at Decorah hospital early Monday morning. Murray Folsom of Postville, the third passenger in the car, suffered a broken leg and other lesser injuries. All of the youths were students at Postville high school. The car in which the three youths were riding crashed into the rear of the Castalia school bus, which was taking the De Sales basketball team of Ossian, home after a game at Lawler. No one in the bus was injured. The bus had stopped to discharge a passenger when the accident occurred.
