Verni Kruse

Verni Carl Kruse, 94, of Monona died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, June 2 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Christopher Staley officiated. Burial followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona.

Casketbearers were Nile Kruse, Steve Kruse, Danny Kruse, Jim Walsh, Tim Kruse and Randy Kruse. Honorary casketbearers were Verni's great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jaden, Brooklyn, Braden, Anna, Autumn and Austin.

He was born March 12, 1914 in rural Allamakee County to Fred and Bertha (Wilke) Kruse and was baptized April 19, 1914 and confirmed August 26, 1928 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He attended Figgie Country School.

Verni was united in marriage to Mabel Timmerman February 20, 1946 at the Evangelical Church, Monona. One daughter, Delpha, was born to this union. Verni worked in the agricultural field for most of his life. He and Mabel farmed together in Linton Township for 31 years. They retired in 1977 and moved into Monona. Verni enjoyed playing cards, talking old-time farming, going for rides and visiting friends. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Delpha (David) Trappe of Monona; three grandchildren, Julie (Greg) Wolff of Monona, Sheri (Travis) Landt of Luana, Cory (Susan) Trappe of Monona; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jaden, Brooklyn, Braden, Anna, Autumn, Austin; one brother, Reuben Kruse of Monona; and one sister-in-law, LaVina Timmerman of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel; one brother, Milton Kruse; and one sister, Mardella Schlitter.
