Etta (Segrist) Hangartner 1876 - 1941

Mrs. Conrad Hangartner passes on this morning:

Mrs. Conrad Hangartner, 65, passed away at her home in this city this morning at one o'clock following a long period of illness, and funeral service will be held Friday morning at ten o'clock at the Schutte funeral home, with the Rev. W. M. Suckow of the United Brethren church officiating. Interment will be made in the Postville cemetery.

As Etta Segrist she was born in Post township, Allamakee County Iowa on July 26, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Segrist, and grew to womanhood in this community, which has alway been her residence.

She was married to Conrad Hangartner in 1893 and to this union ten children were born, all of whom with the husband survive. These are Fred, Louis LaVerne, James and Mrs. Roy (Helen) Bloxham, all of Postville; Ruth of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Walter (Esther) VanWey of Frankville; Mrs. Fay (Hazel) Harris of Gary, Indiana; Mrs. Paul (Anna) Wright of Bristol, Indiana, and Lynn Hangartner of Monona, Iowa. Also surviving are a brother, Fred Segrist, and a sister Mrs. Frank (Lucy) Roffman, both of Post township; nineteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family had lived on farms in this vicinity until about five years ago when they moved to Postville, which has since been her home.

Pallbearers at the funeral Friday will be Ira E. Smith, H. W. Meier, Earl Abernethy, Charles Reincke, Herman Schutta and C. C. Sander.

Etta died July 16, 1941
