Mrs. Emma Gordanier dies at home of son in Cresco.
Mrs. Emma Gordanier passed away Sunday eve, Oct. 4, 1931, at 9:35 o'clock at the home of her son, Edward Werhan, in Cresco, Iowa. Death was due to pneumonia following an illness of ten days.
Emma Segrist was born March 17, 1861 to Louis and Mary Ann Segrist of Allamakee Co. Iowa. On March 14, 1875, she was united in marriage to Henry August Werhan who preceded her in death in 1896.
To this union seven children were born, Darwin L. of Cresco, Mary (Mrs. Dennis Horan) of Decorah, deceased, Eli, of Long Lake, Ill. Lee also of Long Lake, Ill. Bert of Ridgeway, Annetta (Mrs. L. C. Gothman) of Iroquois, S. D. and Edward of Cresco. She is also survived by twenty six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
In Sept. 1912 she was united in marriage to P. L. Gordanier of Postville, Iowa who passed away in February, 1927.
Funeral services were held yesterday at 2:00 o'clock from the home of her son, Edward, and at 2:30 from the Methodist church at Cresco. Interment was made in the Oak Lawn cemetery Cresco, Iowa. Her children and many friends will miss the departure of this kind and loving mother and friend.
