Raymond Rea 1922-2008

Raymond F. Rea, 85, of Cedar Rapids died suddenly at his residence Friday March 28, 2008. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, April 1 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, officiated by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post # 5.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughter, Mary Lou Kadera of Menomonee Falls, WI; his grandchildren, Erin (Jeffrey) Faust of West Bend, WI, David (Stephanie) Kadera of Menomonee Falls, WI, and Kathryn Kadera of Pewaukee, WI; his great-grandchildren Sydney Ann Faust and Baby Faust (in August); and his sister, Mary Hicks of Rockford, IL. His brothers William and Raphael precede him in death.

Raymond Francis Rea was born September 23, 1922 in Waukon, the son of Robert James and Marie Dorothy Mellick Rea. He married Lois Anne Long October 6, 1948 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Raymond served his country in the Army. He farmed several years and also worked at Penick and Ford, retiring in 1992.

Raymond was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids since 1959 and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, sharing stories, and enjoyed being a jokester with them. He will be remembered as a jovial person that never went anywhere without his hat.
