DEATH OF N.D. STEELE
PIONEER FROM BOYHOOD

"The death of Nelson D. Steele occurred Thursday at the age of 82 years. He had been alone on the Steel homestead, a short distance northwest of Waukon in Union Prairie township. Due to a heart ailment and infirmities of age, it was deemed best for him to receive care at the county home, but his death occurred one week later.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. David Steele, he was born at Adamsville, Pa., on July 11, 1862. In 1864 the family moved to this vicinity where he had since resided. He never married and is survived by a brother and a sister, James H. Steele of Lake Andes, South Dakota, and Mrs. Martha Moore, White, South Dakota. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death, namely: Maggie Steele, Mrs. Hannah Clark, Mrs. Nancy Jones, Mrs. Mary Richardson, John and Robert Steele, the latter having passed away last February.

Deceased will be remembered as an active ball player and attentive member of Waukon's crack military state guardsmen, Company I.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Martin's funeral home, conducted by Rev. A.H. Grossheim. Those who carried the remains to their last resting place in Oakland Cemetery were Ben Klocke, Frank Bulman, Cory Stilwell, Charles Hansmeier, Thomas McGeough, and Nicolas Colsch."
