Moses Ross, a miserly bachelor, died near Rossville, Allamakee county, on the 14 inst., leaving an estate valued at $2,500. By his death the Presbyterian church of Rossville is enriched not a little. A nephew and two nieces are bequeathed a farm; and the balance, excepting $600 for a monument and funeral expenses, goes to the church. The Waukon Democrat says he was erratic in habits and dealings, lived in squalor and seldom associated with his fellow men.
Decorah 'Republican' March 1901_____________________________
Moses Ross, an aged bachelor and wealthy resident of Jefferson township, died on Thursday last, and by his will the Presbyterian church at Rossville is given the larger portion of his property, estimated to amount tin all to nearly $25,000. His will provides for an expenditure of $3.00 for funeral expenses and a monument, and $300 to be set apart for the care and maintenance of the cemetery in which he was buried.
His nephew Robt. Lyons, of the western part of the state and two nieces are bequeathed a farm adjacent to Rossville, after which the balance of his property consisting of another farm in Jefferson township and all monies is given to the church.
There are certain restrictions attached to the bequest, one of which is that none of the large body of timber on the place is ever to be cut or destroyed. The trustees of the church are the executors of the will.
Deceased was very erratic in all his habits and dealings and his life was closely allied to that of a miser. He lived alone in squalor and seldom associated with his fellowmen.
