James "Jimmy" Postel
James "Jimmy' D. Postel, of Arlington, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 23, 2008, as a result of a car accident near Evansdale. He was 71.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 28, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. A military memorial service was held on Sunday evening, January 27, at the funeral home by the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 of Oelwein. Interment was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home of Oelwein was in charge of arrangements.
James Dean Postal was born on July 26, 1936, at Independence, the son of Ray and Pearl (Allerding) Postel. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army.
Jimmy married Beverly Maye Fuller on February 28, 1976, at Dubuque. He was a machinist at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for many years. Jimmy was also an avid golfer and has had one hole in one. His grandchildren were a big part of his life. He has been a resident of Arlington the past year, and formerly had lived in Postville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Johnson; and eleven brothers and sisters.
James is survived by his wife, Beverly Postal, Arlington; seven children: Roger (Janice) Postel, Worthington, Cheri (Steve) Schmitt, Farley, Michael Johnson, Arlington, Loni (Randy) Thein, Arlington, Rick Johnson, Silvis, Ill., Chuck (Dannette) Johnson, Silvis, Ill., and Sheri (Ed) Berinobis, Strawberry Point; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters: Geraldine Leslein of Yuma, Ariz., and Betty Dryer, Dubuque.The Postville Herald-Leader, January 30, 2008
