Ty Riehm, 14, of Waukon died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 after injuries suffered in an accident at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, December 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Rev. Richard A. Iles officiating. Burial service was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Ty Marcus Riehm was born February 19, 1993 in Decorah, the son of Tom and Annie (Duffy) Riehm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon. Ty was a 9th grader in the Waukon Schools, where he played on the football team and was particularly interested in studying history. Since he was 8 years old, Ty has been actively helping in his father's construction business, tending to details around the shop and often operating some of the heavy equipment. Ty enjoyed being active and liked riding his four wheeler, dirt bike and snowmobile. He was always helpful around the house and shop and his kind heart earned him a lot of friends.
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Annie Riehm and his sister, Tiffany, all of Waukon; maternal grandparents, Mary Ann Duffy of Decorah and Mark Duffy of Waukon; and several aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Selma Riehm; an aunt, Barb; and an uncle, Tim.
Honorary casketbearers were Ty's confirmation class and the Waukon Freshman Football Team players, managers and coaches. Casketbearers were Mark Arneson, Ron Liddiard, Pat Stone, Jason Schierholz, Shawn Delaney and Craig Schrick.

ATV Incident Claims Life Of Waukon TeenagerTy Riehm
A Tuesday, December 11 incident involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) claimed the life of 14-year old Ty Marcus Riehm of Waukon, son of Tom and Annie Riehm. The report from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office indicates that the accident was reported at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the Riehm residence located at the intersection of Ninth Street SW and Highway 9 in rural Waukon.
The report states that officers arriving at the scene found Riehm to be unresponsive near the large shed located on the property. Investigators determined that Riehm had attempted to exit the shed riding a Honda 350 ATV through a garage door when he was pinned by the closing overhead garage door.
Riehm was transported to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, where he was pronounced dead. The Allamakee County Sheriff's Department was assisted in the investigation by the Waukon Police Department and the Allamakee County Coroner.
Riehm was a freshman at the Allamakee Junior High School in Waukon, where counselors were on hand for several days following the incident to assist students and staff members in coping with the tragedy. In honor of Riehm, following his passing, some of his classmates and fellow Junior High students wore a "tie for Ty", donning neckties during the school day.
Allamakee Junior High School Principal Joe Griffith stated, "The death of Ty Riehm has been a tragic event that has deeply saddened our entire school. It is difficult to express the emotions that students and staff have experienced since learning this news. Ty had many friends and will be missed by everyone that knew him. At school he was involved in FFA and football. Our school will not be the same without him. Our thoughts and prayers go to Tom, Annie and Tiffany Riehm for the loss of their son and brother. Memories of Ty will live on forever in those that knew him."
Funeral services were held Monday, December 17 at United Methodist Church in Waukon. A full obituary appears on Page 3A in this week's issue of The Standard.
