Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12 for Romilda Koth, 89, with Rev. Steve Brackett officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Romilda Martha Lily (Heins) Koth, the daughter of Fred J. and Anna K. (Neuhring) Heins, was born November 13, 1918, on a farm northeast of Postville. She died Saturday, Feb. 9 in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union.

She was baptized January 25, 1919, by Rev. E. Schmidt and confirmed March 20, 1932, by Rev. R. B. Garten, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Romilda graduated from Postville High School in 1936.

May 24, 1938, Romilda married Kenneth Reed Koth in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville by Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig. They had five children.

Kenneth and Romilda began farming near Castalia in 1938, where Romilda began helping with the farm work, including the milking. They owned farms in the Monona, Luana, and Postville areas. In 1982 they retired from farming and moved to Postville. They liked their work of taking care of the area cemeteries and managing apartments. Romilda helped Kenneth with the gathering of maple syrup at the sugarbush and trimming around the tombstones at the cemeteries.

Romilda will be remembered as a person who put others before herself, as a homemaker who loved to cook and was often "creative" as she tried different recipes, and someone who enjoyed raising ground cherries and sharing her preserves that she made from them. She and Kenneth enjoyed attending dances and square dancing as well.

Romilda was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and and an honorary member of the Women of the ELCA. She served as a 4-H Leader for the Cherry Valley Chums for many years.
