EDWARD RYAN Killed

EDWARD RYAN of Union Prairie Township was found dead at the Stockyards, Tuesday morning, the result of being thrown from his wagon by a runaway team.

Monday evening about 11 o'clock or shortly after as Joseph COATS was going home he found a team loose from the wagon near Charles CARPENTER'S in South Waukon. The wagon was a few feet away. Other persons were informed of the runaway and they found a hat and other things scattered along the Rossville road near the stockyards. Yesterday morning J. B. HAYS and Melvin SANDBANK went to the stock yards about 6:45 and found the body of EDWARD RYAN, then cold in death. The alarm was given and in about half an hour the coroner, Dr. S. C. MYERS of Rossville, was telephoned for and he arrived about 10 o'clock. The following persons were empaneled as a coroner's jury: Matthew KELLY, M. W. EATON, John MURRAY, with J. M. COLLINS as clerk. They proceeded to view the body and surroundings and then after the body was removed to rooms over MOLUMBY'S furniture store took the testimony of Joseph COATS and Melvin SANDBANK, and after deliberation the jury reported:

"At an inquisition held at Waukon, in Allamakee county, on the 12th day of July, 1898, before S. C. MYERS, M. D., coroner of said county, and state of Iowa, upon the body of EDWARD RYAN, there lying dead, by the jurors whose names are hereto subscribed. The said jurors upon their oaths do say we find that said deceased came to his death by a partial dislocation of the neck and concussion of the brain caused by being thrown from his wagon.

In testimony whereof the jurors have set their hands this 12th day of July, 1898."

He was about sixty years old, and a brother of PETER RYAN of Union Prairie and JAMES RYAN near Frankville.
