Edgar C. Riser

Funeral services for Edgar C. Riser are being held today (Wednesday, January 26) in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Dick Harberts officiating. Mr. Riser died January 22 in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, where he had been since December 27.

Edgar C. Riser, son of Charles J. and Clara Hanson Riser, was born January 29, 1903, at Churchtown, Allamakee County, Iowa, where he received his early education. He graduated from a Dairy Course from Iowa State University, Ames, in 1926. His first job as buttermaker was at Clinton. He was hired as manager and buttermaker at the Postville Creamery in November, 1927, and remained until 1958.

He served as manager of the Waukon Farmers Cooperative Creamery for four years. In 1962 the Monona, Luana, Postville and Garnavillo Creameries merged and formed the Northeast Iowa Dairy Cooperative of which Ed was hired as manager.

On April 14, 1928, he was united in marriage to Nina DeSart of Elgin.

Mr. Riser was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, joining by certificate October 4, 1964. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge and Brotherly Love Lodge, A. F. and A. M., of which he served as Noble Grand and Master. As a member of the Iowa Creamery Operators Association, he served as vice president in 1963, 1964, and 1965.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leigh and Harold J. He is survived by his wife Nina; one brother Carl of Rochester, Minnesota; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Sires of Postville; Mrs. Bernice Kroeger, Iowa City; Mrs. Burton Mitchell, Utica, Minnesota; and Mrs. Lorene Eckles, Rochester, Minnesota, and other relatives.

Interment is in the Postville Cemetery.
